| Chargers Vs. Jaguars: TV Schedule, Game Time… | |
By Alfie Crow
After firing their head coach, the Jacksonville Jaguars will look to rally around interim head coach Mel Tucker against the reeling San Diego Chargers. Follow , and Like SBNation.com on Facebook. Dec 5, 2011 – The Jacksonville Jaguars are heading into Monday Night Football against the San Diego Chargers after a tumultuous week that say head coach Jack Del Rio fired and the franchise sold. In the wake of the Del Rio firing, defensive coordinator Mel Tucker will take over the head coaching duties and already shook things up, cutting the team’s No. 1 wide receiver and firing the team’s wide receiver coach. None of that will matter however, if rookie quarterback Blaine Gabbert can’t finally have a break out game against a weak Chargers pass rush. As always however, the offense will have to flow through running back Maurice Jones-Drew while the Jaguars banged up defense will keep them in the game. The San Diego Chargers on the other hand haven’t fired head coach Norv Turner, but reports surfaced that he could be on the chopping block. The Chargers have been a massive disappointment this season, heading into Monday Night Football with a 4-7 record and trying to salvage the season. There is an outside shot the Chargers can still win the AFC West, but they would need to win on Monday and get quite a bit of help. Quarterback Philip Rivers has struggled turning the football over, which has been uncharacteristic of him in the past. Not only has the Chargers offense struggled, but the defense has also been problematic giving up yards on the ground. | Jacksonville Jaguars hold off Baltimore Ravens | |
Stephen Morton/Associated Press Jacksonville kicker Josh Scobee hit four field goals, giving the Jaguars all the offense they would need to hold off the Baltimore Ravens 12-7 on Monday night.
NFL Jaguars 12, Ravens 7 JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Jacksonville didn’t allow a first down until the 5:26 mark in the third quarter, and Josh Scobee kicked four field goals as the Jaguars eked out a 12-7 win over the Baltimore Ravens on Monday night. It was a mix of stout defense and inept offense on both sides. The Jaguars set a franchise record by allowing only 16 yards in the first half, including 1 yard passing by Joe Flacco, who was under relentless pressure for much of the night. Baltimore (4-2) finally got a first down on the its 28th play of the game when Ray Rice broke off a 12-yard run on a third-and-one from own 29. That was only the second play longer than 10 yards for the Ravens, although they picked up two more first downs on the drive. It ended when Dwight Lowery sacked Flacco, and Billy Cundiff’s 52-yard field goal was wide right. The teams combined to go 0 of 16 on third-down conversions in the opening half. The Jaguars (2-5) began the third quarter with six first downs, only for the Ravens defense to stiffen after yet another mistake. The Ravens stopped Jacksonville, but Brendon Ayanbadejo was called for a personal foul and ejected from the game when he punched Guy Whimper in the facemask after the play. That gave the Jaguars first-and-goal from the 3, but Blaine Gabbert failed to complete two passes in the end zone and Scobee kicked a 22-yard field goal. Scobee, who extended his franchise record with a field goal for the 15th straight game, earlier kicked a pair of field goals from 54 yards. His final kick, with 1:43 left in the game, was from 51 yards out. In developments Tebow legend grows: Although Tim Tebow’s mechanics are far from polished and his passes far from pretty, his moxie appears to be in perfect working order. When the game’s on the line, the Denver Broncos’ charismatic quarterback finds a way to rally his team, happy feet in the pocket and all. Tebow, in his first start of the season, pulled off an improbable comeback Sunday, bringing the Broncos back from a 15-0 deficit in the waning minutes of regulation for an 18-15 overtime win over winless Miami. With this implausible victory, the popularity of Tebow is only going to skyrocket — as if it weren’t sky high already. Many fans have long wanted Tebow as their starter, even going so far as to put up billboards begging coach John Fox to insert the former Heisman Trophy winner from Florida. They got their wish against San Diego two weeks ago when Fox yanked Kyle Orton in favor of Tebow, who almost rallied the Broncos to a win in the fourth quarter. This time, Tebow succeeded. And with a comeback for the ages, too. The Broncos said it’s the largest deficit overcome in a win with less than 3 minutes since the 1970 NFL merger, citing the Elias Sports Bureau. “He’s a guy who’s going to continue to fight, continue to scrap and use his arm, his legs or whatever to get the job done,” safety Brian Dawkins said after the game. Lions’ Stafford day to day: Matthew Stafford is “day to day” after suffering a right ankle injury in the final minutes of the Lions’ loss to the Falcons on Sunday. Detroit coach Jim Schwartz said Monday that his quarterback wore a protective boot after the game, but wouldn’t go into details about X-ray or MRI results. Redskins hit hard: Washington running back Tim Hightower is out for the season with a torn ACL in his left knee, and receiver Santana Moss will miss five to seven weeks with a broken bone in his left hand. The Redskins have now lost five offensive starters to significant injuries in the last two games. Hightower’s knee buckled during a third-quarter run in Sunday’s 33-20 loss to Carolina. Moss was hurt in the first half of the game and had surgery Monday. McFadden hurt: Oakland’s Darren McFadden, the NFL’s leading rusher entering the weekend, sprained his right foot in a loss to Kansas City. McFadden was on crutches and had a walking boot Monday. Bradford still iffy: St. Louis Rams coach Steve Spagnuolo says Sam Bradford remains in a walking boot and isn’t sure of the quarterback’s availability for Sunday against the Saints. Bradford has a high left ankle sprain, and sat out Sunday’s loss to the Cowboys. Leave your comments on the news below. Posted in jaguars-news | Comments Off
